Michigan Minor in Possession of Alcohol Defense Lawyer

Throughout the state of Michigan, arrests and convictions of young people for possession of alcohol is a serious issue. A minor in possession (MIP) charge is a serious crime with potential consequences including jail time and ruined prospects. Even worse, judges are too harsh and most lawyers don't know how to handle these cases properly, often letting kids plead guilty despite the unfair disadvantage they face.

My Name is Jim Amberg and I am a criminal defense attorney who has dedicated my career to fighting a serious problem in Michigan.  Most people don’t realize until it is too late that in certain courts in Oakland County, a young person with an MIP can face everything from extreme probation to jail.  Unfortunately, most parents find out too late that going to court without a criminal defense attorney who understands the intricacies of Michigan MIP laws and ordinances and is not afraid to stand up to the tough judges was a terrible idea.

POST QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS ABOUT YOUR MIP CASE ON MY JOURNAL AND I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHERE YOU STAND

I have consistently successfully fought against the harsh practices of imposing jail in MIP Probation Violations in both the 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills and the 48th District Court in Bloomfield Hills.  I have also had the Oakland County Circuit Court stay jail and WWAM Weekend sentences in order to appeal convictions.  I have won appeals and recently had an Oakland County Circuit Court Judge hold that WWAM Weekends are not a permissible sentence in MIP cases.  I will hold trials and I am not afraid to tell the Judges how I feel about their actions, extreme sentences, and illegal hearings.  I have taken this to the next level by suing the Courts who routinely practice the illegal procedure of holding Contempt of Court proceedings to get around the Michigan laws which prohibit jailing people for non-jailable offenses.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS BEFORE YOU OR ANYBODY YOU KNOW GOES INTO THE 52-3 or 48th DISTRICT COURT ON AN MIP CASE

I decided to create this site for the sole purpose of informing anybody who is has, is, or will be finding themselves in the 52-3 or 48th District on a Michigan Minor in Possession Charge.  Hopefully the site will help you know about what to do, what not to do, what to expect, and what are your rights when you or somebody you know has an MIP charge.

I pledge that I will continue to stand up every day for the young people of Oakland County.    All I ask in return is for you to let others know about the injustice which is taking place in our Courts so we can finally stop the jailing of minors.
